Doctors and nurses heckled by party supporters; health services suffer massive jolt in Tripura

UNI Aug 28, 2018

The health services have received a major jolt due to absence of doctors, some of whom have excused themselves from their duties allegedly due to the atrocities by a section of BJP activists, according to the recent reports from different subdivisions in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai.

Recently, the problem in health services has emerged in the bordering subdivision of Kamalpur where the incumbent SDMO was threatened by a section of BJP activists over some trivial issues. Adding to that, some doctors and specialists in gynecology and pediatric departments have been transferred. In the district hospital in the subdivision of Ambassa, some doctors have gone into long leave.

The eye specialist in the hospital is undergoing treatment and the lone pediatrician has been on leave as a result, children suffering from malaria have to be treated by other doctors. Meanwhile, in the bordering subdivision of Gandacharra, some BJP activists have threatened the on- duty doctor and allegedly photographed the nurses forcibly from inside of their changing room, entering the hospital premises at night.

Regarding this issue a complaint has been lodged with local police station and a case has been registered. Due to the deteriorating health services, the local people have demanded early probe by the administration into the alleged atrocities on doctors and nurses.
