More than a dozen people in Hata village of Badkadih panchayat of Manika block of this district on July 25 complained of diarrhoea, following which a team of health personnel was dispatched from Latehar, Jharkhand for treating the sick.

Civil Surgeon Latehar Dr Shivpujan Sharma said that after the villagers informed about the situation a team from the health department was rushed to the area. The situation in the village was under control he said, adding that the condition of the villagers was also improving. He said that for the treatment of villagers the sub-healthcare center located, in near by Kumandih village, has been turned into the base hospital.

Villagers said that many people had returned back yesterday after sowing paddy in neighbouring state of Bihar. They started vomiting and complained of nausea after which the health department
was alerted.
