UNI Aug 09, 2018

Despite the tall claims of the Jharkhand Government of improving health services in the state, a father was forced to walk for about eight kilometers with the dead body of his infant child as he had no money to travel by bus and the hospital denied him an ambulance.

The incident took place under Manika Police Station area of this district yesterday. The man, a resident of Auratand Banjhipokhar village of Manika panchayat, had on August 7 reached with his wife at the government hospital in Manika where his wife delivered a dead child.

The doctors at the hospital asked the man to take away the dead infant and maintained that his wife will be kept in the hospital for better treatment. The man urged the hospital doctors to provide an ambulance as he did not have money to pay for bus fare but was turned down by the hospital following which the man was forced to take the journey back to his village on foot. The doctors in the hospital said that they do not have any facility to provide vehicle so the man can return to his home with the dead infant.
