Death toll in Scrub Typhus outbreak mounts to 10 in Himachal

The toll in the Scrub Typhus outbreak in Himachal climbed to 10 on September 19, after other patient died at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), officials said.
State Communicable Disease Surveillance officer Sonam Negi said that IGMC reported about 126 positive cases on Scrub typhus as 19 cases were declared positive on September 18. In the state, 172 patients were tested for Scrub Typhus till Sep 17 out of which 32 was tested positive. He said that with more death number of Scrub Typhus toll went up to ten as five died in the IGMC.
State recorded 28 cases of Scrub typhus on Sep 18 out of 196 samples . State has a total 852 positive cases so far.
Shimla district recorded highest five deaths Chamba and Kangra recorded two each death each and Kullu and Sirmaur one each. Bilaspur district recorded as many as 187 cases of Scrub Typhus followed by Hamirpur 144 and Shimla 126 cases.
