DATRI to host Walkathon on World Cancer Day

PTI Jan 31, 2018

Over 300 volunteers have signed up to participate in the Walkathon organised by DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, India's largest repository of life-saving blood stem cell donors. This awareness rally is scheduled to happen on World Cancer Day.

There is a general misconception that blood cancer is deadly and has no cure. The rally will focus on dispelling this myth and in spreading awareness on how common man can play a role in saving the life of patients with blood cancer and several other blood disorders. A blood stem cell transplant is the only hope for many such patients. The chance of finding a donor is 1 in 10000 to 1 in over a million.

"Only on associating with DATRI, I got to know that fatal disorders like blood cancer and thalassemia can be cured. I am now waiting for my chance to save a life. Each of us can, if we sign up as a potential donor with DATRI," says Mr. India International, Darasing Khurana, brand ambassador for the registry and winner of Style Icon of the Year 2018 award. There are thousands of patients waiting for a matched donor. Anyone could be a potential lifesaver.
