Conference on Trauma held in Pune

A collective study is needed to document all the cases of trauma to better help in its treatment, Mohi Bhandari, Prof. of orthopedics at the McMaster University said.
A two-day conference, which concluded on Saturday on 'How to handle the Trauma cases', was organized by Sancheti Hospital with associations of orthopedic surgeons and focused on the problems in trauma care which is faced by the whole world today.
The conference discussed on various crises faced by the world in trauma care since there is difficulty in enforcing
precautions, and this is adding to the global healthcare bill, said Canadian and Indian experts and doctors. Elaborating on multiple factors are involved in assisting trauma injuries to help save a person’s limbs and even life and that today, all these factors need improvement as well as enforcement of basic precautions, Bhandari added.
He said that it has been seen that there are the majority of Trauma cases are outside North America, we need to create a new data set for the different kind of trauma cases that we are seeing around the world. He further said that reality is that there is a crisis of trauma all over the world, which is costing lives and greatly adding to healthcare costs around the world.
Dr. Atul Patil of Sancheti hospital said that it is necessary to adopt the modern technology in dealing with trauma cases today and said that it is important that respondents need to be educated on how to handle trauma victims. The process involves establishing the patient, reducing the risk of complications like infections, and getting the persons quickly to an appropriate centres of treatment.
Patil said that enough education and infrastructure is required for that, and that is a challenge in India. The incidents of trauma are also increasing due to the difficulty in enforcing prevention measures, like wearing a helmet, or using seat-belts while driving, he added.
