UNI Jan 31, 2018
Over 1,000 taxi drivers are expected to benefit from a special, free two-day dental camp organised from Tuesday at
the Mumbai International Airport.
The camp, organised by Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited in partnership with Indian Dental Association (IDA), is being held as a part of the ongoing Oral Health Month, a national oral care campaign currently in its 14th edition. The camp has been organised after a recent report revealed that 35 per cent of the 400 surveyed drivers showed early signs of oral cancer due to tobacco consumption while 64 per cent drivers consumed tobacco and its products like khaini and paan masala, in order to stay awake while driving.
During this special dental care camp, the taxi drivers in Mumbai will be provided with free dental treatments like scaling and polishing. The Colgate’s Oral Health Month programme has provided free dental check-ups and consultation to over 33 million Indians in last 14 years.
In the last edition itself, OHM had provided free dental check-ups to six million people, across 1,100 cities, with the help of 34,000 IDA dentists, said Issam Bachaalani, managing director, Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited, speaking on the occasion.
