Clash between BJP MLA supporters and doctors in UP
UNI Nov 22, 2018
The family members and supporters of Bharatiya Janata MLA from Tanda, daughter in law of a patient and the doctors at Mahamaya Allopathic Medical College in Sadarpur, clashed on late November 20 night.
While the MLA’s henchmen roughed up doctors and made the principal and some senior doctors hostage at gun point, the junior doctors later attacked them and torched their four luxury vehicles. The situation was controlled only after senior police officers reached the spot with heavy police force.
They took applications from both sides and registered case with the Aliganj police station but so far no further action has been taken in the matter. Police reports said on November 21 that the condition of the mother-in-law of BJP’s MLA from Tanda in Ambedkarnagar, Sunju Devi, deteriorated on November 20 night so the family members took her to Mahamaya Allopathic Medical College in Sadarpur. Devi’s brother-in-law and Shyam Babu Gupta, the representative of the MLA, both took the woman to hospital.
The situation took an ugly turn when the doctors referred the patient to Lucknow seeing her condition to be `critical’. However, as the hospital authorities failed to provide ambulance immediately, so the family members and supporters of the MLA first abused the staff and later they held the Medical College Principal, Dr PK Singh and senior doctors hostage at gunpoint.
When the news of taking their principal at gunpoint reached to other doctors, they gathered and first
protested. However, when the MLA’s supporters tried to use force and the brother in law also reportedly fired several round in air, the doctors went on rampage. They clashed with the MLA’s family and supporters and later torched four luxury vehicles belonging to them. Later, senior police officers reached the spot and somehow defuse the situation. One hospital employee, identified as Arvind Kumar was critically injured in the clash.
