Century Hospitals conducts CME for doctors on advanced techniqes in treatment of burns

The critical care department of the Century Hospitals on June 10 conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) for the doctors on advanced techniques in treatment of burns.

 


The programme was organized with an objective to create awareness and sensitize regarding handling of burns patient at initial stage and also the following course of action. More than 60 doctors from Corporate Hospitals, Government Hospitals like Osmania and Gandhi attended the programme. The initiative was planned and executed, aiming the doctors from critical care, plastic surgery, general surgery and anesthesia.

The three scientific sessions organized as a part of the CME covered different topics like resuscitation, the importance of first few hours (Golden Hour), pre-operative aspects, pain management, nutritional support, holistic care, and approach. The discussion was followed by a question-answer session.

The doctors also presented a case of a 26-year-old young patient Ashok, who was brought to Century Critical care unit with 65 per cent mixed Burns. After primary resuscitation, he was moved to Burns Unit in the same hospital and been under the supervision of Dr Bala Subramanyam, Dr Kamesh and Dr Sunil T Pandya. The patient was in Burns unit and discharged in 35 days after complete recovery.

Speaking on the occasion, Century Hospitals Vice Chairman Dr Hemanth Kaukuntla said, “Burns is a common cause of injury presenting to the Emergency Department and added that one thing is crystal clear that the treatment of burns is a serious team work among experts.

Together, critical care experts, surgeons, anesthesiologist, nurses, technicians and others decide the further treatment after the primary revival of the patient. Every minute during the treatment counts. Hence, it is very important for the doctors in this field to be updated regarding the latest tips and tricks to save the patient’s life,” Dr Kaukuntla said. The program ended with distribution of certificates and the doctors who attended the session opined that the sessions like these not only teach latest advances but also give them a chance to meet the best doctors in the field who can guide them further.
