Centre demands estimates for heart and knee surgeries from district hospitals

On complaints of demanding huge amounts from patients in the state hospital, even after Central government's decision, to reduce the charges for heart surgery and knee replacement, Central government has asked for the detailed expense of 12 patients from each district hospital to zero-in the problem.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi may enquire about the developments into this matter through video conferencing on June 7. Chief medical superintendent (CMS), district hospital, Dr Rajeev Kumar Sharma here on Sunday said that central government has reduced the prices of treatment and medicines for heart surgery and knee replacement for one year.
Patients have to pay a nominal amount for these surgeries but since there were some complaints about charging huge amount of money for the same, from many district hospitals. Government has issued direction to submit details of patients of heart surgery and knee replacement from district hospitals, Dr Sharma said. He added that all CMS will be in Lucknow headquarters to attend the video conferencing of PM Modi.
