The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on May 2 approved the construction of a 100-bed hospital in Delhi at an estimated cost of Rs 95 crore.
Addressing the media, the Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the hospital, expected to be completed in two years' time, would come up in the Najafgarh area of west Delhi. "There are about 73 villages around Najafgarh which has a population of 13.65 lakh, but there is no good hospital around," he said. According to an official statement, the hospital will include four major clinical services in medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and surgery, including a blood bank, diagnostic services and separate Out Patient Departments (OPD) for general medicine, surgery, dental, ENT, ophthalmology, audiometry and paediatric care.
It would provide child and maternal services, trauma care and basic primary diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive and curative services, according to the statement. The hospital would have more than 30 doctors and 40 nurses, apart from 50 allied and healthcare staff and is expected to be fully operational by May 2020.
