Botched-up eye surgeries: Inquiry ordered against doctors, others
PTI Feb 15, 2019
The Mumbai Municipal Commissioner on February 14 suspended three nurses and ordered a full-fledged inquiry against eight doctors and other officials over botched-up eye surgeries at a civic-run hospital last month.
Three patients lost vision in one eye after surgeries performed at Bal Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari last month. Commissioner Ajoy Mehta said in his orders on February 14 that flaws in the system will have to be rectified to prevent such incidents in future.
Mehta also questioned the competence of the dean of the Cooper hospital who had submitted initial inquiry report. The commissioner asked an additional municipal commissioner to conduct inquiry against the dean. After two inquiries were found to be unsatisfactory, Mehta had ordered a third inquiry.
