Talking to the press persons here today Basavaraj Bheemalli, HKES President said that the complex surgery was performed at a minimal cost of Rs 97,000. The surgery costs upwards of Rs 4.5 lakh in other parts of the country. Of the Rs 97,000, the state government would bear Rs 35,000, as the patient was a Yeshasvini card holder. Alok C Patil, Joint Replacement and Arthroscopic Surgeon, who performed the surgery, said that Mahadevappa, an economically poor farmer from Umergi village, Afzalpur taluk in Kalaburagi district, had consulted various hospitals in Solapur, Miraj and Bengaluru.
