Dr E Narayanankutty Warrier of Kozhikode-based MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute has been selected as one of the top 12 Oncologists in the world by American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
 

One of the fields that were recognized by ASCO was Dr Warrier’s work towards banning tobacco products in Kerala, a release said here on June 9. ''It is a rare academic honour that the world’s largest professional organization for oncologists which keeps high standards for cancer treatment and research has recognized our Founder Medical Director Dr E Narayanankutty Warrier,'' said MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute Chairman C N Vijayakrishnan.

He is the only oncologist from India to have made to this list and it is matter of pride for all, he added. Dr Warrier said, oral cancer is highly prevalent in India as about 75-80,000 cases are reported every year. The incidents can be contributed to the use of tobacco. ''It was in 2012 that I had started a signature campaign against tobacco products. The sale of tobacco products is banned in Kerala now,” he said.
