Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals Kolkata conducts three kidney transplants

For the first time in Eastern India, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Kolkata conducted three renal transplants simultaneously on a single day.
Out of the three transplants, one organ was harvested from a deceased donor and the other two were live donations. The kidney harvested from the deceased donor went to a 56-year-old gentleman from Kolkata who was suffering from chronic kidney failure under the supervision of Dr. Manish Kumar Jain, Senior Consultant Nephrologist, AGHL and Dr. Mohan Seal, Senior Transplant Surgeon, AGHL.
In the second instance, both the donor (21-year-old gentleman) and the recipient (55-year-old gentleman) were from Myanmar. The transplant was performed under the clinical expertise of Dr. Vinay Mahindra, senior consultant urologist and Dr. Manish Kumar Jain.
The third transplant was done by Dr. Mohan Seal and Dr. Manish Kumar Jain on 43-year-old male from Kolkata, who received a kidney from a 28-year-old lady from North 24 Parganas.
Mr Rana Dasgupta, CEO, AGHL, expressed, “We are happy to announce that while being ahead of time in healthcare, we have successfully transplanted three kidneys in one day for the first time in Eastern India. We are thankful to the deceased donor’s family, Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO), Department of Health, Government of West Bengal and Kolkata Police for making it possible.”
