Top neurology experts from AIIMS, Delhi are visiting areas such as Vasant Kunj and Munirka to carry out tests on residents aged above 50 for detecting high BP, diabetes, and thyroid issues.
The study is also being used to record and learn about the lifestyle and habits of the senior population in Delhi and spread awareness about healthy lifestyles among residents. The tests are being conducted free of cost. The expert leading the AIIMS Cohort Study (ACS), Dr. Kameshwar Prasad mentioned that the study is being done to assess possible risk factors or lifestyle choices of seniors that could lead to stroke and dementia.
From the initial findings of the population tested at Vasant Kunj, Delhi, it was found that 70% of the residents suffered from high blood pressure and 40% from diabetes. 40% of the men interviewed for the study were smokers, a high-risk population for stroke and dementia. Many of the people diagnosed for diabetes and hypertension were unaware of their condition before this study.
