8th Annual conference of ISPNS held

The eighth annual conference of Indian Society of Peripheral Nerve Surgery (ISPNS), organised by the SIMS Hospital, was held in Chennai on February 9 in which over 150 delegates from across the country participated.
In a press release, ISPNS National President and SIMS hospital Plastic surgeon Dr K Sridhar said the conference was aimed at gathering all those treating nerve problems under one roof, enabling free sharing of knowledge and experience. Difficult surgical procedures were demonstrated in the live operative workshop and the conference featured more than 40 invited lectures on various aspects of peripheral nerve surgery.
"We have endeavoured to include every aspect of peripheral nerve surgery including neuroradiology, electrophysiology in the scientific programme'', he said. Nerves were important structures that arise from brain and spinal cord and were responsible for sensations like touch, pain and special sensations like taste, vision, hearing and smell, Dr Sridhar said.
Similarly these nerves were also responsible for the muscles to contract and move the hands, feet and even face. ''Without nerves we can’t walk, move our hands and work or even smile", he said. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated the Conference. Chairman-SRM Group Ravi Pachamoothoo was the Special Guest and Madras Medical College, former head of the department of Neurosurgery Prof S Kalyanaraman inaugurated the live Workshop, the release added.
