6 patients loose eye-sight after cataract operation in Varanasi

Senior health officials in the district are facing protests over loss of eye-sight of six patients who went for cataract operation on June 12.
 

 


However, Chief Medical Officer Dr V B Singh, who is probing the matter, assured on June 16 that the eye-sight of the six patients could return soon. According to the report, six patients -- Akthari Begum, Malti Devi, Parvarti Devi, Vandana, Tribeni and Yagh Narain Singh, were operated for cataract at Marwari hospital on June 12. But after the operation, the eye-sight of these patients did not return after their eye-bandage were removed but the doctors assured that everything would be okay by next 72 hours.

When nothing happened after 72 hours, the families of the patients protested and complained to the police. Additional District Magistrate Virendra Prasad Pandey and the CMO visited the patients at the hospital to probe the matter. The officials said strict action would be taken if anyone found guilty. The CMO hinted that there is improvement in the eye of one patient while in the remaining five, it will take some time.
