15 more beds added to cancer daycare ward of SKIMS in Srinagar

UNI Mar 29, 2018

SKIMS, Srinagar has in a move to expand and enable better patient care, especially for cancer patients, added 15 extra beds to its daycare ward.

In order to improve the cancer care facilities and provide higher level of care to the patients, the SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on 28 March added 15 more beds in its daycare ward, dedicated for treatment and management of cancer patients. Director of SKIMS Omar Javed Shah said the SKIMS, which is a multi-super-specialty hospital, provides all kinds of treatment facilities to the patients suffering from various malignancies through Regional Cancer Center (RCC).

He said the cancer patients deserve the best and our plans blend comfortable, spacious facilities, advanced technology and a streamlined convenient care process for an ideal patient experience. He also said the community has come to know and trust the doctors and the level of care they provide. In addition to the physical expansion and transformations that have taken place, SKIMS will set its services, apart from others, with its multi-disciplinary approach to care, Prof Shah said.

In their futuristic vision, he said each expansion project will create multi-disciplinary clinic, space, where navigating cancer diagnosis begins with a single, yet comprehensive modality. The SKIMS was established to help the patients and their families navigate through what may be one of the most difficult times. Prof Shah also said that it is because of the increase in number of patients due to high incidence of cancer, the space was found quite inadequate and would often result into patients waiting. ''In order to minimise the miseries of patients and avoid the long queues, which were witnessed at SKIMS, an urgent measure in terms of enhancement of bed capacity was taken with the objective to provide the relief to the cancer patients,'' he added.
