13-year old undergoes successful heart transplant at Fortis, Bengaluru

A thirteen year-old boy got a new lease of life with successful Heart transplant done by a team of doctors at Fortis Hospital, Bangaluru.
The Heart of a brain dead patient, with the concent of family members, was airlifted from Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh to Kempegowda International Airport here and was brought to the hospital by road with the help of Trafic police here, according to a release on August 8.
A potential organ alert was received by the team at Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta on August 6 evening. The organ was harvested from a 20 year-old male in Visakhapatnam who had met with a road accident and was declared brain dead. Upon the family’s consent the heart was allocated to Fortis Bannerghatta. The organ started at 9:30 PM from Visakhapatnam towards Bangalore and reached the hospital by 10:56 PM.
