Five people were also injured in the accident that took place in Chamba's Sahu Bazar area. The deceased was a 75-year old woman of Ali village, who was sitting in the shop when a 108 ambulance rammed into it as the driver lost control of the vehicle, Chamba Superintendent of Police Dr Monica Bhutunguru said.

The woman died on the spot whereas three other people sitting in the shop were injured, the SP said. The ambulance driver and emergency medical technician (EMT) also sustained injuries, she added. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, Bhutunguru said. She said an FIR has been registered against the ambulance driver under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC at Chamba Sadar police station.
