Zoonotic Staphylococcus pseudintermedius sinonasal infections: Risk factors and resistance patterns
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology Mar 29, 2019
Ference EH, et al. - Researchers evaluated 33 individuals with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) to estimate the risk factors and resistance patterns of zoonotic Staphylococcus pseudintermedius sinonasal infections. They observed 82% of cases resistant to penicillin, 58% to clindamycin, 45% to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, 33% to doxycycline, and 27% to oxacillin among 33 positive cultures. They noticed that 97% of cases with S pseudintermedius were dog owners. But, they reported no relation of S pseudintermedius infection with behaviors like a dog sleeping in the bedroom, routinely licking humans, or being diagnosed with a soft tissue infection.
