Yoga for cancer-related fatigue in survivors of hematopoietic cell transplantation: A feasibility study
Journal of Pain and Symptom Management Dec 04, 2019
Baydoun M, Barton DL, Peterson M, et al. - In the present study, the researchers assessed the feasibility of a yoga intervention offered to adult hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) survivors with moderate-to-severe cancer-related fatigue, one of the most common symptoms experienced by cancer patients following HCT. Adult HCT survivors have been registered in a 6-week restorative yoga intervention that consisted of a 1-hour once-weekly class with twice-weekly home practice using a DVD. The study sample consisted of 13 women and 7 men with a mean age of 51 years (SD = 12.5). Data reported that the accrual acceptance rate was 23.2% and the retention rate was 60%. It was noted that overall adherence was 45.4%. According to this feasibility study, restorative yoga intervention is safe and feasible in adult HCT survivors. Graft versus host disease incidence may have had an impact on adherence. Strategies are needed to enhance accrual acceptance, retention and adherence.
