Work-related predictors for return to work after stroke

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica Jan 23, 2019

Palstam A, et al. - Via analysis of data from 204 Swedish people with first-time stroke (2009-2010) who were of working age and had worked before the stroke, researchers studied the effects of work-related factors on time to return to work (RTW) after stroke, as well as possible differences between males and females. Disease-related characteristics were collected from medical records, and work-related and socio-economic data were collected from Statistics Sweden and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency up to 6 years after the stroke. Cox regression was used to analyze RTW time predictors. According to findings, qualified occupation and large organizational size were identified as work-related predictors for shorter time to RTW after stroke. Work-related factors held significance for men, but not women. The only predictor for RTW for women was physical dependency at discharge.
