Women have worse cognitive, functional, and psychiatric outcomes at hospital discharge after cardiac arrest
Resuscitation Mar 30, 2018
Agarwal S, et al. - Gender differences among cardiac arrest (CA) survivors’ cognitive, functional, and psychiatric outcomes at discharge were examined among 187 CA patients admitted to Columbia University Medical Center, considered for Targeted Temperature Management (TTM), and survived to hospital discharge. In this work, women demonstrated significantly worse Repeatable Battery for Neuropsychological Status, Modified Lawton Physical Self-Maintenance Scale, and Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale scores. Thereby suggesting that at hospital discharge after cardiac arrest, women have worse cognitive, functional, and psychiatric outcomes than men.
