Wide variation and overprescription of opioids after elective surgery

Thiels CA, et al. - Researchers sought to identify opioid prescribing practices across surgical specialties and institutions. Findings suggested opioids overprescription in majority of patients. There appeared significant prescribing variation that was not explained by patient factors. These data would provide guidance to practices for optimizing opioid prescribing after surgery.
