Whole grain food diet slightly reduces cardiovascular risks in obese/overweight adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Feb 26, 2020
Wang W, et al. - In order to determine the influence of whole grain diet on cardiovascular risks among obese/overweight adults, researchers undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis. They identified randomized controlled trials from PubMed, Embase and Cochrane, and certain inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to select the studies. Findings revealed lower body weight and lower C-reactive protein (CRP) in correlation with the intake of whole grain vs the control group. However, the two groups did not show significant differences in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and fasting glucose. Overall, experts concluded that a slight reduction in body weight and CRP can be brought about by whole grain food consumption in the obese/overweight population.
