Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice May 10, 2018
Gu Y, et al. - This prospective cohort study tested the hypothesize that white blood cells (WBC) count can be used as an indicator to assess whether or not obesity leads to increased risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). From 2007 to 2016, an aggregate of 47,678 subjects was followed up. Researchers defined T2D and obesity in accordance with the criteria of the World Health Organization. They used adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression models to evaluate relationships between obese status, WBC count and the incidence of T2D. Findings from the present study suggested that WBC count can be used as an indicator to identify whether or not obesity leads to increased risk of T2D.
