Which is the best radiological imaging method for predicting actual prostate weight
Andrologia Sep 23, 2020
Gok B, Hajiyev E, Hamidi N, et al. - The present study was conducted to compare the weight of the prostate specimen removed after robotic radical prostatectomy with the prostate weight measured pre‐operatively by four different imaging modalities. Via Transabdominal Ultrasonography, Transrectal Ultrasonography, Abdominal Tomography, and MultiparametricProstate Magnetic Resonance imaging (mpMRI), pre‐operative prostate weight before robotic radical prostatectomy was assessed. A total of 170 patients were included in the study. The data exhibit that actual prostate weight is best predicted by measurements with mpMRI, although prostate weight measured by different imaging methods has a high correlation to predict actual prostate weight. Nevertheless, errors and deviations that may occur with these imaging procedures should be taken into consideration.
