Which are the optimal criteria for the diagnosis of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis? A latent class analysis
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Sep 05, 2020
Saxena P, Choudhary H, Muthu V, et al. - Researchers sought to compare the diagnostic performance of various criteria used for evaluating allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). They prospectively enrolled 543 individuals (mean age, 37 years; 319 women), comprising of 338 (62.2%), and 205 (37.8%) labeled as ‘mild-to-moderate’ and ‘severe’ asthma, respectively. Performing a series of investigations used for the diagnosis of ABPA, they identified only marginally better performance of the ISHAM (International Society for Human and Animal Mycology)-ABPA working group criterion vs the Patterson criteria in diagnosing ABPA among these cases with asthma. However, improvement in the diagnostic performance was observed with modification in the prevailing ISHAM criteria, but with increased cost.
