Which anti-incontinence surgery option is better in patients undergoing total laparoscopic hysterectomy? Burch colposuspension or transobturator tape procedure
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Apr 22, 2020
Seckin KD, et al. - Researchers sought for the urinary incontinence surgery that would be a better option for patients who would undergo a hysterectomy for various indications. In this retrospective study, 65 patients who had undergone total laparoscopic hysterectomy and anti-incontinence surgery (TOT or Burch) were assessed. The groups did not differ in demographic characteristics and menopausal status. Outcomes revealed similar success rates of Burch colposuspension and transobturator procedures, hence, either of these two procedures can be selected according to patient characteristics and surgeon experience. However, better outcomes appeared in terms of blood loss and operation time in correlation with Burch colposuspension vs TOT, indicating Burch colposuspension to be the preferred one.
