What represents treatment efficacy in long-term studies of gout flare prevention?: An interview study of people with gout
The Journal of Rheumatology Dec 08, 2021
Holyer J, Garcia-Guillen A, Taylor WJ, et al. - Following are the factors that gout patients take into account when considering treatment efficacy over time: flare duration, flare frequency, and pain severity.
Semistructured interviews of 22 gout patients were conducted to ascertain the contributors to their perceptions of treatment efficacy in long-term studies of gout flare prevention.
Participants’ perception of treatment efficacy was noted to be impacted by the following 3 factors: pain intensity, flare duration, and flare frequency.
However, successful therapy was most frequently indicated by a shorter flare duration, with half of patients (n = 11, 50%) selecting the scenario with a shorter flare duration over those with less painful flares.
