What is the risk of local recurrence after laparoscopic transperitoneal radical nephrectomy in children with Wilms tumours? Analysis of a local series and review of the literature
Journal of Pediatric Urology Apr 20, 2018
Bouty A, et al. - Authors ascertained the incidence of local recurrence after laparoscopic transperitoneal radical nephrectomy (LTRN) in children with Wilms tumours. Findings suggested that recurrence in WT was not increased by LTRN. After LTRN, the incidence of local recurrence was 3.8%. Nonetheless, experts noted that tumours amenable to minimally invasive surgery were smaller, with higher numbers of low stage and standard histology. But in order to carefully evaluate this risk, the inclusion of patients in international protocols with prolonged and systematic follow-up was of utmost importance.
