What is the influence of tonsillectomy on the level of periodontal pathogens on the tongue dorsum and in periodontal pockets

Diener VN, et al. - Experts probed the change in the oral flora of patients who had undergone tonsillectomy. They tested the pockets for 11 bacterial species before and 6 weeks after the surgical intervention. As per the data, no immediate relevant effect of tonsillectomy was seen on the bacterial flora of tongue or periodontium. For the change of the 11 investigated species, no relevant intra- or intergroup differences were noted.
