What is an important difference in gait speed in adults with knee osteoarthritis
Arthritis Care & Research Feb 11, 2020
Gilbert AL, et al. - The important differences in gait speed in adults with radiographic knee osteoarthritis were analyzed. A total of 2,527 individuals with radiographic knee osteoarthritis were included. Applying 20-meter and 400-meter walk tests performed at self-selected usual pace, the functional performance was estimated by gait speed among adults with radiographic knee osteoarthritis participating in the Osteoarthritis Initiative at baseline and two years later. Researchers used both distribution-based methods and anchor-based to determine the important differences in gait speed. The important difference was obtained in gait speed for a 20-meter walk and a 400-meter walk is consistent with important difference measures for older adult populations. These data can give benchmarks for evaluating and understanding functional performance outcomes when analyzing exposure groups and can be applied in designing future studies targeting individuals with radiographic knee osteoarthritis.
