What influence does the time of year have on postoperative complications following total knee arthroplasty?
Journal of Arthroplasty Jan 14, 2018
Sodhi N, et al. - Researchers undertook this investigation to study the correlations between the time of year and 30-day postoperative complication rates following primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). They categorized all TKAs into 4 cohorts based on the quarter of the year (Q1 to Q4) during which the surgery was performed. Findings reported that Q3 vs Q1 had a higher risk of superficial infection and compared to Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 had lower blood transfusion. This work affords a baseline analysis correlating the time of year and outcomes of TKA.
