What are the reasons and risk factors for 30-day readmission after outpatient total hip arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 20, 2020
Bovonratwet P, Chen AZ, Shen TS, et al. - This study was attempted to evaluate the reasons and risk factors for 30-day readmission after outpatient total hip arthroplasty. Researchers distinguished individuals who had undergone primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) in the 2012-2018 NSQIP database. The primary endpoint included readmission within the 30-day postoperative period. They distinguished the risk factors for and impact of an overnight hospital stay on 30-day readmission after outpatient THA through multivariable models. They further distinguished reasons for and timing of readmission. This study enrolled a sum of 5,245 outpatient THA patients and 44,171 patients who stayed one night. After outpatient THA, the rate of 30-day readmission was low. The results of this study demonstrate that individuals who are at high risk for 30-day readmission after outpatient THA include those with older age and bleeding disorders. The data demonstrate that some of these individuals may benefit from an inpatient hospital stay.
