Weight changes, metabolic syndrome and all‐cause mortality among Asian adults living with HIV
HIV Medicine Dec 01, 2021
Han WM, Law MG, Choi JY, et al. - Asian adults living with HIV were investigated for weight changes following antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation, the development of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its association with all-cause mortality.
Analysis was performed among 4,931 people living with HIV (PLWH), 66% of these were male.
ART initiation was followed by significantly higher weight gain in those with lower CD4 count, higher HIV RNA and an INSTI-based regimen after controlling for baseline BMI.
There is a necessity for greater efforts to identify and manage MetS among PLWH.
