Weight change in the early rheumatoid arthritis period and risk for subsequent mortality among women with RA and matched comparators
Arthritis & Rheumatism Dec 04, 2017
Sparks JA, et al. - Researchers, herein, aimed to investigate if weight change during the early RA period was related to subsequent mortality and assessed for an RA-specific impact. Findings demonstrated an association of severe weight loss during the early RA period with increased subsequent mortality risk for women with and without RA. These data argued against an RA-specific obesity paradox for mortality and extended previous observations by including non-RA comparators and finding no protective association between weight gain and mortality.
