Wall stress on ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms with bicuspid compared to tricuspid aortic valve
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Mar 14, 2018
Xuan Y, et al. - Researchers aimed at assessing if bicuspid aortic valve (BAV)-associated ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms (aTAA) had higher wall stresses than their tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) counterparts. In BAV-aTAA, circumferential and longitudinal stresses were greater compared to TAV-aTAA. These stresses were more pronounced in the sinotubular junction (STJ). No correlation of peak wall stress with BAV-aTAA diameter was recognized, suggesting diameter alone in this population could be a poor predictor of dissection risk. Results hereby highlighted the necessity for patient-specific aneurysm wall stress analysis for accurate dissection risk prediction.
