Volumetric mammographic density, age-related decline, and breast cancer risk factors in a National Breast Cancer Screening Program
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Aug 22, 2018
Hjerkind KV, et al. - Researchers examined the association between volumetric mammographic density (VMD) measures and breast cancer risk factors in a cohort comprising 46,428 women (ages 49–71 years) who participated in BreastScreen Norway between 2007 and 2014 and had information on VMD and breast cancer risk factors. They estimated means of percent and absolute VMD related to age, menopausal status, body mass index (BMI), and other factors. Findings demonstrated the association of VMD with several breast cancer risk factors, BMI was identified as the strongest among all. They noted that the direction of the link varied for percent and absolute VMD. The results also revealed an inverse association with age, which seemed to be modified by menopausal status and other breast cancer risk factors.
