Volumetric laser endomicroscopy interpretation and feature analysis in dysplastic Barrett's esophagus
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology May 31, 2018
Kamboj AK, et al. - Given that volumetric laser endomicroscopy (VLE) is used to identify Barrett's esophagus (BE) dysplasia, researchers attempted to study the degree of agreement among VLE users in selecting a region of interest (ROI). Using a four-quadrant grid superimposed for systematic interpretation, high-definition videos that divided a VLE scan from eighteen patients with biopsy-proven BE dysplasia into 1-cm segments were reviewed. Based on image quality and appropriate visualization of BE epithelium, VLE scans were selected. Results of this study suggested that experienced VLE users could identify ROIs with high-degree of agreement. Data reported that selected ROIs contained VLE features associated with BE dysplasia.
