Voiding recovery after radical parametrectomy in cervical cancer patients: An international prospective multicentre trial – SENTIX
Gynecologic Oncology Jan 09, 2021
Zapardiel I, Kocian R, Köhler C, et al. - In patients with early-stage cervical cancer, a leading morbidity after radical hysterectomy is voiding dysfunctions, so researchers conducted an ad hoc analysis of factors affecting voiding recovery in SENTIX (SENTinel lymph node biopsy in cervIX cancer) trial, a prospective study on sentinel lymph node biopsy without pelvic lymphadenectomy in patients with early-stage cervical cancer. Analysis included the data of 300 patients. The most significant factor influencing voiding recovery was the extent of parametrectomy. Risk of delayed voiding recovery was higher in correlation with undergoing type-B parametrectomy vs the nerve-sparing C1 technique. Significantly increased risk of delayed voiding recovery after parametrectomy was noted in correlation with previous pregnancy. The voiding function was recovered in 98% of patients within 1 month post surgery. No association of minimally invasive surgery with faster voiding recovery was noted.
