Voice change after thyroidectomy without vocal cord paralysis: analysis of 2,297 thyroidectomy patients
Surgery Sep 14, 2020
Kim SY, Kim GJ, Lee DH, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate voice outcomes for 6 months of follow-up after thyroidectomy to distinguish factors closely related to low-pitched voice. Between January 2014 and December 2017, the records of 2,297 patients who had undergone thyroidectomy were retrospectively examined. It was shown that after thyroidectomy, female gender and older age are strongly correlated with elevated risk for low-pitched voice. The outcomes considered that speaking fundamental frequency ≥ 12.48 Hz 1 month after thyroidectomy can be applied to prognosticate sustained low-pitched voice after thyroidectomy.
