Voice abnormalities and laryngeal pathology in preterm children
Annals of Allergy, Rhinology, & Laryngology Jul 07, 2018
Hseu A, et al. - Authors reviewed the voice abnormalities in patients with a history of prematurity and characterize the etiology of their voice problems. Findings suggested an association of intubation greater than 28 days and prolonged NICU stays with more severe dysphonia in premature patients. In this unique patient population, low threshold for clinical evaluation of dysphonia was suggested. Compared to those without vocal fold immobility, significantly greater voice deviance in breathiness, loudness, and overall severity was seen in 33 patients with vocal fold hypo- or immobility.
