Vitreous bands identified by handheld spectral-domain optical coherence tomography among premature infants
JAMA Ophthalmology May 28, 2018
Zepeda EM, et al. - Experts characterized vitreous bands in premature infants with use of handheld spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). This prospective cohort study was conducted from July 7, 2015, to February 28, 2017, at 2 university-based neonatal intensive care units. Findings suggested an association of the development of vitreous bands with both cystoid macular oedema and epiretinal membrane. Among premature infants, these findings suggest a tractional pathogenesis to these entities. No direct association between vitreous bands and severe ROP was seen.
