Vitamin D supplementation reduces the occurrence of colorectal polyps in high-latitude locations

Sutherland RL, Ormsbee J, Pader J, et al. - Given that many Canadians are vitamin D deficient throughout winter due to high latitudes in Canada, researchers explored the connection between vitamin D supplement use and high-risk adenomatous polyps. The population study was taken from the biorepository at the Forzani & MacPhail Colon Cancer Screening Centre in Calgary. Participants in the study were people (n = 1,409) recruited between 2013 and 2016 between the age of 50 and 74 years. The authors discovered that adequate vitamin D supplementation lessens the occurrence of colorectal polyps in high-latitude locations.
