Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy and the risk of wheezing in offspring: A systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis
Journal of Asthma Nov 03, 2019
Li W, Qin Z, Gao J, et al. - Researchers evaluated the linear and nonlinear dose-response pattern of vitamin D consumption during pregnancy and asthma or wheezing in offspring, by analyzing 6,068 participants, to ultimately determine the dose of vitamin D that could offer more effective prophylaxis against the development of wheezing in offspring. From PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL, they identified relevant studies published up to December 2017. They also selected studies by hand-searching reference lists. According to the findings, there exists an inverse link between vitamin D intake during pregnancy and wheezing or asthma in offspring. Furthermore, around 800 IU/d vitamin D consumption during pregnancy may be beneficial for offspring, as suggested in trend analysis.
