Vitamin D status in adult patients with nonmelanoma skin cancer in Cape Town, South Africa: A cross-sectional study
International Journal of Dermatology Jul 01, 2018
van Deventer L, et al. - Researchers assessed if patients with nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) at their institution were vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D deficiency was seen in 49.5% of NMSC patients and 41.3% had insufficient vitamin D levels. Winter and female gender were included in the high-risk factors. In patients with NMSC, the need for the development of recommendations and guidelines on sun protection were highlighted, while still ensuring an adequate vitamin D status.
