Vitamin D as a risk factor for the presence of asymptomatic uterine fibroids in premenopausal Han Chinese women
Fertility and Sterility Feb 18, 2021
Xu F, Li F, Li L, et al. - Researchers conducted a cross-sectional study with the aim to investigate the correlation between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of asymptomatic uterine fibroids (UFs). Recruitment of 133 asymptomatic patients with UFs and 80 normal control individuals was performed. Sixty one pairs were created following age matching. UF-positive patients exhibited lower vitamin D levels than those of healthy control individuals both in unmatched and matched samples. Relative to normal groups, asymptomatic patients had a lower level of vitamin D in both unmatched and matched samples. Furthermore, for having asymptomatic UFs, the optimal threshold vitamin D level was 14.34 ng/mL. Per findings, premenopausal Han Chinese women may be at increased risk of asymptomatic UFs in correlation with vitamin D deficiency.
